Lichen Planus

Lichen Planus is an inflammatory disease of the skin and membranes. It can also affect nails, scalp, mouth and genitals. It is triggered when the body's immune system mistakenly attacks itself causing firm, itchy purple-colored bumps (often with white lines). Also may cause patches or skin lesions. Lichen Planus occasionally occurs with other health conditions. We recommend consulting a doctor for the right treatment options.

Can it be cured?

Yes it can, however most effected women suffer from it for many years.

What is the best treatment?

PRP injections in preliminary studies showed to be superior to topical steroids, however more studies are on the way.

What OTC products can be used to prevent itching/scratching?

Petroleum jelly, cool gel packs, or cold yogurt on a pad can all be used to relieve symptoms. Avoid rubbing/scratching; postmenopausal women may get relieve from topical estrogen.
